Our Beginner classes are suitable for boys and girls. Our programme provides a good introduction to gymnastics, children learn basic gymnastics and generic skills which are used in all sports, such as agility, balance and co-ordination. Our classes are great fun and a brilliant way to meet new friends.
Term Focus
January – April Gymnasts have the opportunity to enter our Recreational Club Championships. This year our competition will take place Sunday 26th April 2026 at Musselburgh Sport Centre.
April – June & August – October Gymnasts work towards their next Gym Step Award. They are presented with a certificate and wristband at the end of term once they have completed the level.
October – December Gymnasts have the opportunity to enter our Christmas Display. This year our Christmas Display will take place Saturday 12th December 2026 at Broughton High School. DATE TBC
Progression
Gymnasts in our Beginner section work towards our Gym Step Awards. Please note we do not provide individual feedback as such, however, our Gym Step Award Programme allows you to see what your child has achieved and what they are working towards. Our club offers pathways from Beginner right through to Elite – those who are showing the potential to move to our Intermediate or Competitive section will be nominated by our coaching team and we will notify you via email.
Our Recreational Class Schedule and bookings
We hold beginner classes at 2 venues: Broughton High School and James Gillespie’s High School. We do not offer trial sessions – each session can vary greatly depending on the session focus, a full term really gives the feel for our sport/club.
What to expect
Please note there are no viewing galleries at either school venue. Gymnasts come into the hall without their parent. Our coaching team will encourage the littles ones and can hold their hand if needed.

Next Term: Classes begin Monday 5th January and run up to and including Saturday 4th April 2026. There will be no classes the week of the February break (16th – 22nd). If you would like to be reminded when open booking commences for our January – April 2026 Term please email enquiries@edinburghgymnastics.org and we will add you to our mailing list.
Please note we do not operate waiting lists, places are allocated on a first come first serve basis during open booking. Open booking will commence Tuesday 16th December 2025 at 7am.

Recreational Fees
CLUB MEMBERSHIP FEE: All participants are required to pay an Annual Club Membership fee of £6 covering the period August 25 to August 26.
BRITISH GYMNASTICS MEMBERSHIP FEE: All participants must register annually with British Gymnastics for insurance purposes – this is paid directly to British Gymnastics and costs £25. The membership year runs from August 25 to August 26.
TERM FEES: Termly coaching fees are payable for the whole term at the start of each term. The termly fee is calculated by the number of weeks in the term multiplied by the per session rate £6.75.
Recreational Kit
Legging or shorts and a t-shirt are perfectly fine to wear in our classes. Gymnasts must remove their socks, shoes, jewellery and long hair must be tied up.

Holiday Camps
We run camps for our recreational gymnasts during the school holidays. These are open to members only. Camp details will be emailed to all current members.
