About Us

About Us

Our club is affiliated to Scottish Gymnastics the national governing body for our sport. All of our gymnasts, including our recreational gymnasts are individually affiliated to Scottish Gymnastics.

The main part of our Club trains in competitive Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. We have both 2 piece and 4 piece sections.

Recreational classes are suitable for boys and girls beginners and those only wanting to train one session per week. We run 1 hour weekly classes for the 5s and over. These classes provide a good introduction to gymnastics and children learn basic gymnastics skills.  They also have the opportunity to compete in our friendly club competition each year and take part in our Christmas Display. Our coaches will invite recreational gymnasts who show good progress and keen interest to progress to intermediate recreational classes or to join the competitive section of our club.

Boys’ Gymnastics
We welcome boys to our recreational classes, and from 2017 we are delighted to run boys-only recreational classes. If your son is already training at a high standard and would like to compete straight away, please try looking on Scottish Gymnastics’ website for a nearby club that can accommodate him. find a club.

2 piece gymnasts train on all 4 apparatus, with a focus on Floor and Vault for competitions. The main competitions are the Scottish Two Piece, usually held in June and November in Perth. There are also competitions hosted by other gymnastics clubs.  These gymnasts train twice a week for 3 or 4 hours in total, and compete in four competitions per year.

City of Edinburgh Gymnastics Club began in January 2006 when we had 11 gymnasts; we now have over 600 members, 120 competitive and around 500 recreational gymnasts.   Our Club provides high quality gymnastics training so gymnasts from Edinburgh and the surrounding areas have the best possible opportunity to train and compete at regional and national level across Scotland.

The Club trains at several venues, the main venues for our competitive section are Tumbles Gymnastics Centre in Portobello and Ainslie Park Leisure Centre. Our Club is led jointly by our Head Coaches Kathryn Findlay and Claire Masterton, who are both Level 4 women’s artistic coaches.  They are supported by a number of dedicated coaches and parent volunteers. Our aim is to maintain a high ratio of coaches to gymnasts to ensure that the gymnasts are given the best opportunity to develop.

4 piece gymnasts train to compete on all women’s artistic apparatus, which are Vault, Bars, Beam and Floor. We compete in Scottish Gymnastics Competitions as well as those organised by other clubs. 4 piece gymnasts will train a minimum of 4 hours per week for 5 year olds, and minimum of 8 hours per week for 8+ year olds.

Display team performs at several festivals throughout the year including Scottish Gymfest. Current competitive and Ex competitive gymnasts are eligible to trial for the team.  It is a fun, non-competitive class where gymnasts perform choreographed routines to music, with balances and tumbles.  Many of our gymnasts who can no longer devote the time to training for competitions can still enjoy practising their skills and being part of the club.

Holiday camps for recreational gymnasts are ran during the February, Easter, Summer and October break. Please email us for more information.  We also hold a Summer Camp for our competitive gymnasts.
